Children’s Minnesota Names Sameer Gupta, M.D., MBA, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer

Children’s Minnesota today announced the appointment of Sameer Gupta, M.D., MBA, as executive vice president and chief medical officer, effective Aug. 1.

Dr. Gupta is a seasoned health care leader, recognized for advancing clinical quality and patient safety, strengthening physician engagement and improving hospital operations.

As executive vice president and chief medical officer, Dr. Gupta will serve on Children’s Minnesota’s executive leadership team and provide clinical leadership, direction and oversight across the organization. He will help advance clinical quality and patient safety, strengthen clinician engagement and well-being, support research and education, and lead continuous improvement efforts aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities around access, equity, experience and financial sustainability.

Dr. Gupta is an accomplished physician executive with more than a decade of senior leadership experience in large, complex academic medical centers, including extensive pediatric leadership. He is recognized for advancing clinical quality and patient safety, strengthening physician engagement, improving hospital operations and leading meaningful, sustained transformation.

Most recently, Dr. Gupta served as vice president of medical affairs at M Health Fairview – University of Minnesota Medical Center and Masonic Children’s Hospital, where he was a core member of the executive leadership team for a 900-bed academic health center. In that role, he provided oversight for quality, safety, patient outcomes, physician leadership and hospital operations.

He previously served as executive medical director and then chief medical officer at M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital, where he helped shape the vision for patient safety, quality and experience. Dr. Gupta is also a pediatric intensivist and served as division director of pediatric critical care at the University of Minnesota Medical School, with a focus on faculty development, education and research growth.
